Information and Policies for Mrs. Ingram’s Second Grade Class

Mrs. Ingram

Most daily work, handouts, and notes from class will be stored with me to limit the amount of material being transferred between school and home. Students will, of course, be able to bring home material to study when needed. I value effort, a positive attitude, and on-task behavior in class so students won’t have to work a lot at home. .Please note: I am available Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 3:30 pm. If you or your child reaches out to me outside of these hours, I will contact you the next day.

Birthdays: We would love to celebrate your child’s birthday! Please let me know in advance when you plan to send special treats. Please send cookies or cupcakes (no items that have to be cut, unless you are planning to attend). If you would like to send drinks, please send individual box drinks or juices.

Daily Folders: A folder will be sent home each day with your child. Homework and other important papers will be inside. If you have any questions or notes for me, please send them in the daily folder. Remember that homework must be completed, initialed and returned the next day in order to receive full credit. It is your child’s responsibility to turn in his or her homework each day.

Your child will have approximately 30-40 minutes of homework each night. He or she will be expected to do self-selected reading for 20 minutes, Monday night through Thursday night. Self-Selected reading means that your child can choose the book they want to read (sometimes I will have a book assigned for your child to read). In order to ensure that each student is reading, I will require that your child to write a response about what they read in their planner. I will tell your child what I am looking for in their response each night. Their response should only be 1-2 sentences long.
Math:
Your child will be given a math homework sheet, everynight (Monday-Thursday). This homework sheet may be out of their math workbooks or it may be an individual worksheet. Please do not tear out pages in the math workbooks.
Spelling:
Your child will be given their spelling words on Mondays. They are expected to study their words every night for their test on Fridays. They will be given a spelling assignment on Tuesday and Thursday nights that will be checked or taken up the following day.
Projects:
Throughout the semester your child will have assigned projects to complete at home. Their will be a due date for each project. It is your child's responsibility to have it completed and turned in by the due date.
Fridays:
There will be no homework given on Fridays. Weekly folders will be sent home and need to be signed by a parent and returned the following Monday.
